Storytelling activity: my experience

Imagen
27/11/23, 20:37 My experience in the storytelling activity was both great and frustrating, hehe. Let me share a bit about the whole process. During the meeting with my teammates, we decided to try to use the green screen in order to enhance the storytelling quality and engagement. So, the first thing I did, next day, was to try it out. First, I downloaded the program (Sony Vegas), which took me a long time, as for some reason it wasn't working.  Moving on, I planned how I wanted my scenes to look. Since the setting in my scenes had to do with trains, stations, landscapes and little houses, I thought that I would use the green screen for the train, the station and the little house. As for the landscapes, I searched some videos in my gallery from my trip to San Miguel. I also asked my classmate to record for me some mountains because, well, I live in San Salvador, and all you can see are houses, buses and pollution. So, my next challenge was making the green screen work. This p...

Original short story: my experience

24/11/23, 21:10 Writing our original short story was, overall, a great experience. First, we thought about the genre of the story. Did we want it to be a sci-fi story, a horror story or a romance story? In the end, we chose a romance story because we thought, who doesn't like romance stories? and, besides, we had some knowledge on the matter (just to clarify, I mean that some of us had read poems and romance books, haha). Then, we had to design the plot. That was the hardest part for me, but not for our amazing classmate, Doris. It seemed like whenever I found a problem with the plot, she quickly made an explanation for it; it was great! After this, we thought about the setting. We thought that a book inspired in El Salvador would be great (even though my mind kept going back to England for some reason), and it turned out amazing. We wrote a description about the characters, we made an outline of the most important events of the story, and we were good to go. The actual writing pa...

There's not enough time

12:00, 06/10/23 Just think about it: we may live, what, 100 years at most. What are 100 years when you compare it to how old the earth is? How many centuries have already passed? Our existence is nothing but a drop of water in the sea of time. All of our busyness here is useless. We get all tangled up in the things we have to do: homework, work, appointments, meetings, housework... we busy ourselves even to the point of neglecting our health...but what for? Is that really important? Isn't all of that pointless? All of our efforts, achievements, and worries accompany us to the grave.  People live their lives unsatisfied, frustrated, in pain, like blind men led by the sounds around them. Nothing seems to be enough. They spend their lives complaining about not having enough money, not having what they want to have, not having the life they would like to have, looking for something that will satisfy...isn't that pointless?  Though life is a precious gift, people often spend it foc...

Uncertainty

29/09/23, 8:46 And then, the realization hit her like a truck. "This is the final semester", she thought. "After this, I don't know where I'll be. I hope I can keep working where I'm at. I hope I can find other opportunities, too. I hope I can study something else; maybe a master's degree. I wonder if I'll be able to do so. I wonder if life will be hard. I hope it isn't too hard, though. I hope everything goes smoothly. I hope I have a good job, and I hope I can be happy of working there." "I hope my family will be well. I hope my parents will always be healthy, and I hope they will be happy with what God has in store for us." "I hope I can find someone to do life with. I hope I can truly fall in love with someone, and he with me. I hope we will be each other's best friends. I hope we will be there for each other. To keep company to each other. To annoy each other. To laugh together. To cry together. That would be great....

The doll of society

22/09/23, 6:00 "Women should be skinny, tall enough, possess a pale complexion and perfect-looking facial features. Men should be muscular, taller than girls, possess a fair complexion and sharp, perfect-looking facial features.  If you don't accommodate to these things...the horror! There's something awfully wrong with you. You shall change it! Go on a strict diet - it does not matter if you are hungry -, cover your face with tons of make up - for who would want to see your pimples, scars or birth marks? They are preposterous!-, and if diet and make-up does not work...plastic surgery is the solution!  Oh! Wouldn't you love to look like those gorgeous models? Look at them. They are the standard!" But who said humans are supposed to look like some kind of plastic-dolls? Society did. Society has brainwashed us into thinking that we must look a certain way to be beautiful. That is why we sometimes feel ashamed of what we look like. We do not like our lips, eyes, nose...

In love under the moonlight

15/09/23, 6:13  (This is a scene from a random story I've been creating in my head. I've been reading lots of romance books lately, and I wanted to give it a try. Let me know what you think!) *** "What are you doing up so late?", I asked, emerging from behind Elliot, who was facing the moonlight that danced in the waters of the lake. His blue eyes lighted up when he saw me.  "I couldn't sleep. You?", he asked as I sat next to him, crossing my legs. My upper lip curled in a sneer of disgust. "Amber's snores were too much to bear," I snorted. Elliot's laugh echoed in the quiet night. "I mean, how can a girl even be so noisy? I'd rather sleep outside on a rock." "I'd very much like to witness that," he grinned, his eyes then landed on my cold shoulders. "Though I think you'd better go back inside. It freezing out here," he pointed out. "I was, in fact, thinking to go for a swim," a satisf...

A reminder of time

08/09/23, 10:00 Christmas isn't as exciting as before for her, but it is, certainly, still somewhat  elating . Perhaps it is the feeling of contentment in the air that makes her heart smile. Or, maybe, it is the sight of families gathering together that makes her soul beam. Either way, laying on her bed, watching a movie about Christmas on Christmas Eve, waiting for the night to approach in order to do absolutely nothing, is still exhilarating.  New Year's Eve is even better. She gets to wear a pretty dress, visit her relatives, and spend some quality time with them. She gets to eat delicious food made by her aunt. She gets to hear her cousins' humorous comments and laugh at them, even if some of those comments are about her petite height, and she finds that even in those comments she can feel the warmth of the word "family".   However, she finds that Christmas does not have the same meaning anymore.  Christmas is now, for her, a reminder of how much time has pa...
