The idol

Money is an astute snake. A stumbling rock. A trap. A poison that can contaminate even the purest heart. Money can make people blind. Money can make you worship it and make you devote your life to it. Money is the root of all evil, they say.

There was a time when she didn't care at all about money. She saw her mother worrying about it all the time. "She's just too stingy. Money isn't that important. Life isn't just about money", she thought. She promised herself she wouldn't be like her mom, or like everyone else, who seemed to hold this idol dear to their hearts. 

She graduated from high school, and she saw this astute snake wrap around her best friend's head. Her friend turned from a carefree girl to a anxious, distressed one, worried about money all the time. She promised herself even more that she wouldn't turn out like that. 

But she became the anxious, distressed girl she promised herself she wouldn't be.

The future was scary. Her parents didn't have stable jobs, and now she wasn't even sure she could keep her house. She was an only child! She was terrified. Money seemed like the only savior she could run to. Looks like she forgot that God was with her...for a moment. 

And she came to an eye-opening realization: "Money is important, yes. But when you let it become an idol in your heart, you can be sure that it will destroy you". She then promised herself that she would fight against this cunning snake that sought to rob people's joy and soul.

    Definitely, if someone has no control, money can make their mind sick! And sadly, today’s young people are very concerned about their future because of the lack of resources.

    You are right! Money is not the most important thing that we have in our life. Of course, that money is essential, but there are other things that can make us happier and that can make us enjoy life more.

A reminder of time

08/09/23, 10:00 Christmas isn't as exciting as before for her, but it is, certainly, still somewhat  elating . Perhaps it is the feeling of contentment in the air that makes her heart smile. Or, maybe, it is the sight of families gathering together that makes her soul beam. Either way, laying on her bed, watching a movie about Christmas on Christmas Eve, waiting for the night to approach in order to do absolutely nothing, is still exhilarating.  New Year's Eve is even better. She gets to wear a pretty dress, visit her relatives, and spend some quality time with them. She gets to eat delicious food made by her aunt. She gets to hear her cousins' humorous comments and laugh at them, even if some of those comments are about her petite height, and she finds that even in those comments she can feel the warmth of the word "family".   However, she finds that Christmas does not have the same meaning anymore.  Christmas is now, for her, a reminder of how much time has pa...
